Actress Beverley Callard, 69, announced earlier this year that she had been diagnosed with the early stages of breast cancer and has kept fans updated on the situation ever since
Beverley Callard said she had a cancer “wobble” this weekend as she updated fans on her health struggles.
The much-loved actress, 69, announced in February that she had been diagnosed with the early stages of breast cancer. The Coronation Street legend, who played Rovers Return landlady Liz McDonald on the ITV soap for decades, told fans that she is hopefully set to begin her treatment very soon.
Bev, who recently relocated to Ireland with her husband Jon McEwan, had previously explained that there had been a bit of a delay with her treatment because it had “taken a while” for her medical records to arrive from England.
She says she first spotted symptoms during her stint on I’m A Celebrity last September. She was told the harrowing news just minutes before she was due on the set of her new show, Fair City and ever since being diagnosed, the soap star been keeping fans updated on her health as she prepares to begin radiotherapy.
Bev is holding nothing back and she detailed how she had a difficult moment at the weekend in her latest video to her social media followers after going out for lunch with her husband.
She captioned her post: “After a bit of a wobble last week with an outfit, I just wanted to pop on and tell you… if you’ve got it, flaunt it! It’s easy to think “oh I won’t wear that today” for whatever reason. But just do it! If you love it- wear it! You don’t ever want to look back and think “I wish I had worn that when I had the chance.”
The star said in the video: “When the weather was really hot, it was great – we all loved it, and we can’t wait to get your summer clothes out and all the rest of it.
“Jon was taking me out for a late Sunday lunch, and I put a white dress on. And it was really difficult, because… it was so obvious and lopsided. I was a bit tearful, and I got through it. I was OK. But summer clothes show it more, whereas, you know, sweatshirts and jumpers and all that they disguise it a little bit.
“I did have a lack of confidence for a while. But I was thinking, sometimes, when we’re going out somewhere, you, me, anybody, women and men, as well. You think ‘I’m going to wear that’ and then you think, no, it might be a bit OTT, or maybe it’s too revealing, or maybe this is too short, or show’s too much, cleavage, or whatever.
“I just thought I should say to you, if you’ve got it, flaunt it. Men, women, everybody.”
Beverley first revealed news of her diagnosis in February during an appearance on RTE’s Late Late Show, and explained that she received the diagnosis just minutes before she was due on set for her new soap role.
She said: “I’ve had some tests just before I left the UK, and literally, 15, 20 minutes before I was in my dressing room at Fair City, getting ready to go on, and I was quite nervous and thinking, ‘I hope everybody thinks I’m all right’, whatever.
“And my consultant rang me and said, ‘you’ve got to come back to the UK’ I said, ‘Well, I can’t possibly, I’ve just taken a new job’. I said ‘I’m away for a month’, and I was diagnosed with breast cancer.
“But I’m fine, I’m absolutely fine. My head was a bit mashed for the first few days. It’s very early stages, and I’m along with thousands of other women as well.”
