BHUBANESWAR: A man died and his wife sustained serious injuries after they were allegedly attacked at a village in Odisha’s Balasore district on Sunday, police said.
The incident took place at Shankarpur village under the jurisdiction of Sadar Police Station. The injured couple was rushed to a hospital, where the man later succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Fakir Mohan Medical College and Hospital. His wife remains under medical care.
According to preliminary information, the attack is suspected to have stemmed from a dispute within the family, reportedly linked to the collection of coconuts from a tree. Police are investigating claims that the deceased’s younger brother may have been involved in the incident.
Police said three unidentified assailants allegedly attacked the couple with sharp-edged weapons, inflicting grievous injuries.
Following the incident, a police team launched an investigation and began efforts to trace the accused persons. Authorities are also working to establish the sequence of events and ascertain the exact motive behind the attack.
No arrests had been reported at the time of filing this report. Further investigation is underway.
