Vijayawada: Experts have emphasised the need for greater awareness of modern treatment methods in paediatric orthopaedics to improve recovery outcomes and prevent permanent disabilities among children with bone injuries.

More than 400 delegates attended IFICS Express-2026, an International Fractures in Children Symposium, held in Vijayawada on Sunday. The conference focused on the latest advances in the management of childhood fractures and improving patient care.

Addressing the gathering, noted paediatric orthopaedic surgeon Dr K. Durga Nagaraju said doctors must continuously update their knowledge and skills to keep pace with emerging technologies in fracture management. He said the symposium aimed to bring the latest treatment protocols closer to practising medical professionals.

Dr Sandeep Pathwardhan, director of the IFICS Foundation, said the treatment of fractures in children differs significantly from that in adults and requires specialised expertise. He urged doctors to align their practices with international standards.

Dr Sai Krishna said several complex fractures in children can now be treated successfully using advanced surgical techniques. Timely diagnosis and appropriate treatment, he added, significantly improve recovery outcomes.

Dr Premal Naik cautioned that conditions such as physeal injuries and fracture neck of femur, if left untreated, could lead to permanent disabilities. However, accurate diagnosis and timely intervention can prevent long-term complications.

Professor Dr Binoti Sheth said scientific conferences provide an important platform for doctors to exchange clinical experiences and discuss challenging cases.

Experts delivered presentations on supracondylar, lateral condyle and forearm fractures, as well as physeal injuries and fracture neck of femur. Live demonstrations of the Titanium Elastic Nailing System (TENS) and hip spica application were among the highlights of the event.
