Love Actually star, Bill Nighy, was confronted by YouTuber, Jack Jones, who covertly recorded the award-winning actor using Ray-Ban’s controversial smart glasses
Bill Nighy has been pranked by a YouTuber, who secretly filmed the Love Actually star using a pair of so-called ‘pervert’ glasses.
The acclaimed actor, 76, was sitting outside a cafe in London when social media stan, Jack Jones, started filming him covertly using Ray-Ban’s controversial smart glasses, which are fitted with a tiny camera in the frame.
Jones – whose claim to fame is making fake phone calls and uploading them to YouTube – confronted the father-of-one while he was enjoying a cup of coffee. Springing out of nowhere, Jones told the gobsmacked actor that he was going to “report” him. Suitably startled, Bill stuttered: “For?” “For being the best actor in the world,” grinned Jones, who secretly filmed the conversation, before grilling the star about his life. The video has been uploaded to Jones’ YouTube channel, which has 500,000 subscribers.
Following the disturbing exchange, a source close to Bill told the Mail that Jones’ behaviour was ‘very unpleasant and disrespectful’. They also said the actor had been left feeling ‘unsettled’ after the incident.
It is not the first time Jones has harassed Bill at what appears to be the same cafe. In another video, posted on his YouTube channel two years ago, the content creator creeps up on the actor from behind before booming into his ear: “Good afternoon, Philip” – a reference to Bill’s character in 2004 comedy Shaun Of The Dead.
As the star jumps out of his seat in shock before quickly walking away, Jones keeps filming, repeatedly demanding to know: “Where is Shaun, Philip?”
Despite boasting a number of fans on his YouTube channel, some viewers of the video branded Jones a bully, with several saying the stunt was “vile” and “a horrible thing to do”.
A year later, Jones – whose Instagram profile claims he’s ‘creating content to make life better’- claimed he had “squashed the beef” with Bill, sharing a video of him presenting flowers to the actor by way of apology.
However, it would appear he’s now back to his old tricks.
AI glasses by Meta have been met with widespread criticism since their launch this year. While the company boasts that “videos are taken from your perspective using just your voice or a quick tap” meaning “everything’s saved effortlessly”, they have inevitable been exploited by stalkers and other ne’er do wells.
Critics say the devices can be used to record people and collect personal data without their consent, labelling the all-seeing lenses ‘pervert glasses’.
As a result, many venues and businesses, including Wetherspoon pubs, theatres and schools, have all banned the glasses following growing public concern.
