BENGALURU: A complaint to Lokayukta on Wednesday by Leader of Opposition in Assembly R. Ashok alleged violation in tender norms related to solid waste management of Bengaluru city and awarding garbage processing tenders to collect “commissions” involving Congress leaders both central and state. The Leader of Opposition alleged “One of the biggest scams to a tune of Rs 39, 437 crore has come to light a week after D.K. Shivakumar assumed charge as Chief Minister.”

After a complaint to Lokayukta, Ashok alleged kickbacks received by Congress leaders from contractors and Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar in a haste cleared the contractors which is an indication the State Government is working in favour of a company.

Although two committees were constituted on solid waste management, Ashok said the recommendations were not considered and the contract is being awarded in a manner favourable to contractors with excessive payments. The contract is for 30-years.

“The tax money of Bengaluru residents is being looted,” he alleged and stated “central and state leaders are involved in this corruption.”

The Lokayukta, he said, assured him to initiate action against the complaint of irregularities in solid waste management of Bengaluru city. Ashok assured to raise the issue on the floor of Legislative Assembly and to fight against the alleged irregularities in solid waste management tender.

Reacting to the allegations, Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar told reporters in New Delhi the allegations levelled by Ashok were “politically motivated” and made out of “jealous” after he became Chief Minister.

Shivakumar alleged Ashok is acting as a “spokesperson” of garbage mafia in Bengaluru city and stated “Let any agency probe the allegations. I’m ready.”
