After making the World Series last year, the Toronto Blue Jays missed the postseason this year.
Losing Bo Bichette and other players failing to perform to expectations left the Blue Jays searching for answers for much of the year. The Blue Jays have an aggressive front office and could be very active in free agency once again. One area of concern for the team is right field.

Anthony Santander has been far from a successful signing for the Blue Jays. Jesús Sánchez and Nathan Lukes saw most of the work in right field last year with Santander missing the entire season. The Blue Jays got just a .654 OPS from right field last season. Lukes was not terrible, but could be moved to a different outfield spot to allow the Blue Jays to upgrade that corner.
Santander could come back and be an All-Star-caliber player, but expecting that may not be a wise move for the Blue Jays. Instead, adding a star in free agency could be the best course of action. Seiya Suzuki already seems to be a target.

“This offseason, said a league source who spoke on condition of anonymity in order to discuss offseason plans, the Jays are expected to pursue Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki,” wrote The Athletic’s Mitch Bannon. “His 26 homers would’ve ranked second on the Jays this year and his .841 OPS would’ve led all qualified Jays by nearly 80 points.
Suzuki hit the third most homers among right fielders last season. He has the second-highest OPS among right fielders as well. Adding him to start every day and moving Lukes to left field could be great for the team’s offense. Assuming George Springer leaves in free agency, Santander could try to carve out a role as the new designated hitter.
