Legendary cricketer Brett Lee, who is regarded as one of the fastest bowlers of his generation, is hogging the limelight for all things personal. It has been more than a decade since Brett Lee announced his retirement from all forms of cricket after a 20-year career. Brett Lee denied dating actress Preity Zinta and calls her a ‘great friend’
In a recent interview with Bombay Times, Brett Lee opened up about the long-standing rumour that he dated Bollywood actress Preity Zinta. The rumour gained traction when Brett Lee played for Kings XI Punjab (now known as Punjab Kings). For the unversed, Preity is the co-owner of Punjab Kings. Later, he went on to play for Kolkata Knight Riders before calling it quits. However, as Brett and Preity worked closely during his IPL stint, people connected the duo.
Brett denied dating actress Preity Zinta in the interview. The Australian former cricketer shared that he and Preity were and still are great friends. He lauded her and described her as an incredibly smart woman. He was quoted as saying:
“Here’s your scoop – I never dated a Bollywood actress. Preity Zinta and I were, and still are, great friends. She was the boss of the Punjab team back then. She’s an incredibly smart woman, and I have a lot of respect for her. Stories like that never bothered me because I always knew the truth. People can speculate all they want, but I never let it affect me.”
Earlier, in a 2011 event in Mumbai, Brett shared that he considered her one of his closest friends in India. During the event, he mentioned that he became friends with Preity while playing for the Kings XI Punjab IPL team. He said, “I’d gotten to know Preity Zinta very well when I played for Kings XI Punjab. And yes, she’s one of my closest friends in India.”
In fact, Preity also slammed the rumours linking her to Brett Lee. Although, she didn’t mention Brett Lee’s name, it was clear whom she was pointing to. Back in 2010, Preity took to her X (formerly Twitter) handle, “I am fed up with being linked to my teammates! For the record! I am single and not dating anyone from my team or, for that reason, any cricketer! When I am dating someone, you all will know.”

Brett Lee took 380 wickets in 221 ODI matches and 310 wickets in 76 Tests for Australia. Despite retiring from international cricket, Brett continues to get overwhelmed by the love from his Indian fans. In a recent interview with Bombay Times, Brett Lee shared:
“It still doesn’t feel real. When I was playing cricket, I wanted to win every single game and gave everything I had. But once I walked off the field, that was another life for me. I almost looked at cricket as an acting role. So, when I’m walking around in Australia or Dubai, I often forget I even played cricket. Then I come to Mumbai, and people remind me with so much warmth. You can’t explain to people who haven’t been to India what that love feels like. I often get asked, ‘What’s India like?’ It’s incredible for so many reasons.”
Brett Lee has been married twice. In 2006, he got married to Elizabeth Kemp. Next year, in 2007, the former couple was blessed with a baby boy. The announcement of their divorce made headlines in 2008. They got divorced in August 2008. Years later, in 2014, he got married to Lana Anderson. In 2019, Brett welcomed his third child. Brett has two children from his previous marriage and shares one child with Lana. He has still not revealed the name of his third child. Opening up about the following in an interview with Now To Love, Brett said:
“For me, I’m actually a very private person away from all this. So, I haven’t even told anyone the name.”
