The Denver Broncos are expected to be a buyer at the 2026 NFL trade deadline. Sitting at 6-2, atop the AFC West, the Broncos are in a good position to add to this already strong roster.

But where will the Broncos look to upgrade? Running back has been one position this team has been linked to, with Jonathan Taylor being a premier option they’ve been linked to. Somehow, that might not be the boldest kind of move they’re looking to make.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport, the Broncos made a bold pursuit to acquire Trey McBride from the Arizona Cardinals. It didn’t go anywhere, but it did reveal what the Broncos’ plan is for this year’s deadline: search for a tight end.

Broncos pursuit of Trey McBride reveals TE trade interest

“The Denver Broncos have checked in around the league on tight ends, going as far as to ambitiously — and some would say outrageously — inquire about Arizona Cardinals star Trey McBride,” Schefter and Rapoport report.

While the Cardinals traded Marvin Harrison Jr. this season, there was zero chance that the Cardinals would trade McBride this season. He’s a part of their future.

The Broncos made an attempt to acquire him, which is understandable considering this team’s standings. But now that the Cardinals told the Broncos no, Sean Payton and George Paton will likely look elsewhere for tight end help.

Whoever the Broncos go after, it won’t be someone as talented as McBride. But there are some very intriguing options worth considering.

One of the more intriguing and realistic options is Philadelphia Eagles veteran Dallas Goedert. He’s likely available for trade with the Eagles’ poor season, and he would be a quality receiving option for the Broncos.

Moe Alie-Cox from the Indianapolis Colts would be a budget option, and maybe Denver tries to acquire someone like Juwan Johnson from the New Orleans Saints, or maybe one of the many veterans on the Los Angeles Rams‘ roster.

The Broncos are involved in the tight end trade market, and there are some fun options worth considering. If they don’t want to spend a fortune on Taylor, but still upgrade the offense, someone like Goedert would make perfect sense for the Broncos.

It should be clear now that Denver is in pursuit of tight end help, with their bold inquiry for McBride tipping their hand for what this team is looking for this season at the NFL trade deadline.
