“Dear Daddy, I don’t even know where to start. How could you do such a thing?” These were the first words that came out of American Idol alum Caleb Flynn’s daughters’ victim impact statement.Â
The former pastor was sentenced to life in prison on October 5, 2026, after an Ohio jury found him guilty of killing his wife, Ashley Flynn, on February 16, 2026. Their two devastated daughters revealed the emotional toll of losing their mother and learning that their father had tried to involve them in his cover-up story.
Caleb Flynn allegedly told his daughters to lie to police after Ashley’s murder
Caleb Flynn was made to sit through the victim impact statement issued on behalf of his minor daughters, where they scathingly cut him off for taking their mother away. But the sentencing hearing revealed another painful detail. Prosecutors revealed that Flynn instructed his daughters on the night Ashley was killed to lie to investigators, because what the girls said could mean “life and death for him.”
In a prosecution sentencing filed in Miami County, Ohio, Caleb was accused of coaching his daughters Ava and Alyssa, who were 9 and 11 at the time, and attempting to “use his grieving daughters to reinforce the story he had created to protect himself.” Ultimately, the girls told investigators the truth, and both eventually testified during the trial.Â
Flynn’s daughters were not physically present in court for his sentencing, but their words were read aloud. His daughters condemned him, the father they loved wholeheartedly, for taking away their mother, who was nothing but good to Caleb and the family. His daughter Ava stated:
“I look up to you. I love you with all my heart. I mean, you lied to everyone. Mommy was the perfect person, the absolute perfect person. What did she ever do to make you hate her so much? She loved you. She cared for you. She took care of you. She loved you with all her heart. She was my best friend. And then you chose to kill the only mother I ever met.”
His elder daughter, Alyssa, asked, “Did you really even think about how much pain you would bring your own two daughters?” She went on to criticize the singer for cheating on Ashley and calling out his mistress, Alleigha Botner. She stated:
“How could you cheat on her and go to that awful woman? I never liked her. She was just a girl who put on a microphone to her mouth and spoke words to the tune. Mommy may not have been a professional singer, but she had a voice of angel.”
The statement continued, “Affairs are a big sin, but there is still a chance. There’s a choice for everything in life. All you have to do is tell God that youâre sorry and that you want to confess and repent them.”
In the end, Calebâs oldest daughter made it plain she had no intention of keeping up a relationship with him in prison. “And by the way, I donât plan on coming to see you,” she said flatly. Ashley’s sister and brother-in-law later spoke up about helping the girls work through this grief.Â
Caleb Flynn insists that he did not kill his wife
Caleb Flynn was pronounced guilty of killing his wife, Ashley, on September 29, 2026. At Monday’s court hearing, he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Regardless, the ex-American Idol singer maintained that he was innocent, stating that he didn’t kill Ashley. In a tearful statement to the court, Flynn said:
“I made vows to Ashley on our wedding day. I failed in those vows. As I stand here before God, who is my ultimate judge, I am not lying when I say I did not kill my wife.”
The lovers reportedly met in 2022 while Botner was an intern at Flynn’s church. She testified that their sexual relationship began in 2024 and continued for roughly 18 months while Flynn remained married to Ashley. Among the evidence presented during Caleb’s trial, his  former mistress, Alleigha Botner, read out a text he sent her:
“I choose you. I’m free. Actions will come tomorrow.”
Caleb’s older daughter ended her statement by saying, “And by the way, I donât plan on coming to see you.” After losing their mother, neither of the siblings wants anything to do with the 29-year-old’s killer.
