Former rugby pro, James Haksell, who was married to reality star and personal trainer, Chloe Madeley, for five years, is looking for love again on E4’s Celebs Go Dating
James Haskell has lifted the lid on his ‘awful’ breakup with Chloe Madeley. The former rugby ace, 41, who is now looking for love on Celebs Go Dating, was asked if he ever cheated on the personal trainer – with whom he shares daughter, Bodhi – by the relationship experts on the E4 show.
Chloe, 38, who is the daughter of This Morning legends Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan, left fans in shock when she announced that she and James had decided to call it quits in 2023 after a five-year relationship. At the time, the couple insisted that the split was mutual and that their sole focus was on co-parenting their daughter, three.
Three years later and James is looking for love again. However, things got awkward on the latest episode of Celebs Go Dating when relationship guru, Anna Williamson, asked him outright if he’d been unfaithful to Chloe.
After an uncomfortably long pause, the rugby star-turned DJ, replied: “No, no not all.”
Admitting that he’d needed to be there more for his wife, he added: “My sporting career was very selfish, lots of travel lots of work, and then I switched to being a DJ and travel and then there is work with that, and I probably needed to be more there for Chloe.”
It comes after Chloe opened up about the break-up in an interview this week.
Speaking on the No Parental Guidance podcast, she claimed her breakup with James was “the worst imaginable”, sharing: “Me and my ex-husband, as much as we had the worst breakup imaginable when our marriage fell apart, we’ve managed to co-parent respectfully throughout all the trauma and toxicity, and it was a lot.”
However, claiming the former couple are now best pals, she shared: “We’ve managed to come out the other side, very surprisingly to me more than anyone, having formed a completely new bond and a new relationship and a new friendship.
“It’s very loving and respectful as parents of children, and I would call him one of my closest friends now.”
The new series of Celebs Go Dating is set to be one of the most eye-popping yet after love guru, Anna, revealed the show would be discussing throuples and polyamory.
Speaking to the Daily Star while billing the new series as the “most entertaining we’ve done”, she said: “We’ve just finished filming and it’s honestly one of the most entertaining series we’ve done. Everyone came in really open, really up for it. Nobody was trying to be too cool for school; they just got stuck in.”
While we can still expect the predictable awkward first dates on the show, Anna said more ‘taboo’ topics will be explored this year, including polyamory, which is the process of engaging in multiple consensual, romantic relationships – often at the same time.
Lifting the lid on the bombshell new series, she said: “We definitely explore polyamory this series. It’s something that more people are curious about in dating now, but it has to be approached properly.”
