
BENGALURU: An estimated 1,581 vehicles, a list prepared by Bengaluru Traffic police, including four-wheelers lying abandoned on public spaces and roads some of them years and many vehicles corrosive not only mar the beauty of Bengaluru city but hinder free movement of pedestrians and to clear such abandoned vehicles on public spaces, officials of Greater Bengaluru Authority in association with Bengaluru Traffic Police have began serving notices to abandoned vehicle owners through pasting stickers on windshield of cars and on doom of two-wheelers.
The notice states owners to collect their abandoned vehicles on roads and public spaces within a week of issuing of the notice by paying a penalty imposed on them. After a week, the uncollected vehicle on public spaces will be towed by personnel to the nearest police station. The abandoned vehicle owners will have another fortnight to collect their vehicle through settling penalties and towing charges.
Even after the fortnight deadline, owners fail to collect their vehicles, Minister of Bengaluru Development Krishna Byre Gowda on Friday told reporters in Bengaluru after launching of the pasting stickers on windshield of cars and two-wheelers will be auctioned.
Gowda said “The abandoned vehicles not only obstructed pedestrian movements on public spaces but also marred the beauty of Bengaluru.”
Over the list, the Minister said “It is not the final list of abandoned vehicles in public spaces and it could be more.” He brought to the notice of the public a mobile app “Astram” to report on abandoned vehicles on public spaces they come across for the officials concerned to initiate action against such abandoned vehicles.
