Nellore: Prakasam district collector P. Rajababu on Wednesday called upon people to actively participate in the government’s ‘Jaladhara-Jalaharathi’ programme aimed at water conservation and groundwater recharge.

Launching feeder canal restoration works at Cheeruvanuppalapadu village in Naguluppalapadu mandal along with Santhanuthalapadu MLA B.N. Vijay Kumar, the collector personally operated an excavator to mark the commencement of the works.

Rajababu said the initiative, launched under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, seeks to ensure effective utilisation of rainwater through desiltation of tanks, feeder canals and jungle clearance works. He said more than 2,000 water conservation works have been taken up across Prakasam district.

The collector appreciated local leader Ala Nagarjuna for voluntarily funding the restoration of about 4.5 km of feeder canals by clearing dense vegetation with machinery.

MLA Vijay Kumar said the programme aims to strengthen water security by rejuvenating tanks, feeder canals and check dams across the state. Officials, public representatives and local residents attended the event.
