Colorado QB Julian Lewis is recovering after a medical emergency, his father announced on Thursday.

Lewis suffered the malady while at the Buffaloes’ facility on Wednesday, and was quickly transferred to the hospital.

“He is recovering and thankful to his medical team, teammates, and Colorado fans for their prayers and support,” T. Carlton Lewis wrote in a statement posted to X. “Please respect Julian and the Lewis family’s privacy. We will have no further comment at this time.”

The school has not addressed the incident yet.

The sophomore started the first four games of the season for Colorado, his last appearance coming in a 23-13 loss to Baylor on Sept. 26 before being benched for junior Isaac Wilson.

Wilson has not been the answer to turning around the Buffaloes’ 2-5 start — he is 0-3 since taking over — and coach Deion Sanders did not count out turning back to Lewis, a four-star recruit for the class of 2025

“That’s on him,” Sanders told reporters on Tuesday. “I don’t think you could find a player in this program — or you may could find some bitter players that have left and didn’t want to leave, but life is what it is — but I don’t treat people unfairly. I don’t play games with young men and their careers and hate on folks.

“If I’m anything, I’m too forgiving and very, very kind. You can ask that gentleman [punter Damon Greaves] over there; I don’t play those games with kids. You’ve got to always understand that we may know a little more than you do, because we’re inside the locker room. We’re there. We understand what happens.”

Lewis, 19, has connected on 61 of his 95 pass attempts (64.2%) for 733 yards with six touchdowns and two interceptions in his four starts, adding a rushing score to his totals in four games on the season.

Colorado is set to host Kansas State at noon on Saturday.
