American Marko Vavic is the first addition to Apollon Smyrnis’s roster for the 2026/27 season. He joined his fellow countryman and teammate on the national team, Hannes Daube, who moved to Apollon last year.
Vavic (27), made his debut for Team USA in 2017 and his most significant achievement with the national team was a bronze medal at the 2024 Olympic Games.
He has played at the World Championships six times and participated in the Olympic Games twice. Besides the bronze from Paris, Vavic has won several medals with Team USA, including bronze in the 2023 World Cup and silver in the 2021 World League.
Marko Vavic began his career in the US college championship with the University of Southern California (USC). In Europe, Vavic wore the caps of Roma, Partizan, Barcelona, and Savona. Playing for Savona, Vavic reached the Euro Cup Quarterfinals and the Italian League final in 2024.
After the Paris Olympics, Vavic returned to the USA, and joined New York Athletic Club.
In October last year, Vavic accepted an invitation from San Giljan and helped the Maltese club qualify for this year’s Final 8 of the Challenger Cup in Istanbul, where he scored 15 goals in three matches. San Giljan shared 5th and 6th places at the tournament.
Apollon finished 3rd in the Greek League and qualified for the Group Stage of the Euro Cup.
