WARANGAL: The Congress has started the process of appointing chairpersons to six state-run corporations in the erstwhile Warangal district, triggering lobbying among party leaders seeking representation.

The exercise follows the completion of the tenure of the existing chairpersons and comes amid ongoing factional rivalries within the district unit. Party sources said the appointments could test internal cohesion as multiple groups press for opportunities.

According to party insiders, at least two incumbent chairpersons are likely to be considered for another term based on their performance and organisational role. One chairperson has conveyed unwillingness to continue and is reportedly aiming for the mayoral post in the upcoming municipal elections.

The remaining incumbents are seeking continuation, citing their performance and contributions over the past two years. At the same time, leaders who were active during the Assembly and Parliamentary elections are pressing for appointments, stating they had set aside opportunities in the interest of the party.

Sources said the party leadership is expected to weigh factors such as social representation, regional balance, caste considerations, organisational strength and the performance of incumbents before taking a decision. Leaders with visible public engagement and promotion of government programmes are likely to be considered.

Some chairpersons facing criticism over performance may be replaced, while senior leaders awaiting political rehabilitation, long-time workers and newly active leaders are also under consideration.

The appointments are expected to influence internal equations within the party in the district, with the leadership required to balance competing claims among aspirants.
