Hyderabad:BRS senior leader T. Harish Rao on Sunday accused the Congress government of failing to fulfil promises to minorities, farmers and poor families.
Speaking at a programme organised by the Telangana Turaka Kasha Welfare Association, he said the government was spending only ₹1,300 crore on minority welfare against its promise of ₹4,000 crore. He alleged minority students were being denied overseas scholarships. During the 10‑year BRS rule, nearly ₹1,550 crore was spent on overseas scholarships for minority students, while the Congress government had spent only ₹14 crore in three years, he said.
He also alleged that employees of the Minority Finance Corporation and Urdu Academy were facing delays in receiving their salaries. The BRS government had increased the minority budget from nearly ₹300 crore to ₹1,800 crore during its tenure. The Congress government was now spending ₹500 crore less than the BRS government, he claimed.
Rao said the BRS government had improved drinking water and irrigation facilities in Gajwel through projects such as Kondapochamma Sagar and Mallanna Sagar. He alleged that the Congress government was not using the available Godavari water. “This is not a natural drought but a crisis created by the Congress government,” he said.
He also criticised the government over pending compensation to Mallanna Sagar oustees and delays in Kalyana Lakshmi payments. He said nearly two lakh Kalyana Lakshmi applications were pending. Rao demanded that the government clear all dues and fulfil its election promises to minorities, women, farmers and displaced families.
