  • Shah cited Congress losing all seats in recent by-elections.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday hit back at Rahul Gandhi over the opposition’s allegations surrounding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, asking the Congress leader to introspect instead of attributing the BJP’s popularity to the exercise.

Speaking in Delhi, Shah cited the Congress party’s electoral performance in several states and referred to recent by-elections in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry to question the opposition’s criticism of the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“I also wish to ask Rahul ji: is this the result of an ‘SIR’? You dismiss the popularity of the BJP and Modi ji by attributing it to an ‘SIR’. You need to introspect,” Shah said.

Amit Shah Cites Congress’ Electoral Performance

Shah said the Congress had failed to win a single election in a major state where it had once held power for 41 years, calling it a matter that required serious introspection.

“This is a matter that demands serious introspection on their part,” he said.

Referring to the recent by-elections in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, Shah said the Congress had failed to win any seats in the elections held in the three regions.

“I want to inform the people of the country today that the Congress party did not win a single seat in the elections held in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry,” he said.

Shah Highlights BJP’s Wins In West Bengal

The Home Minister cited the BJP’s victories in West Bengal constituencies to underline his argument about the party’s electoral performance.

“In Naogaon, the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate won by a margin of 1,42,000 votes; the BJP wrested this seat from the Congress party,” Shah said.

He also referred to the result in Nandigram, where he said the BJP candidate secured 76% of the vote and won by a margin of 1,22,000 votes.

“In Rejinagar, West Bengal, the BJP won by over 75,000 votes—snatching the seat from the Trinamool,” Shah said.

Amit Shah Cites Puducherry Result

Shah also referred to the result in Puducherry, where he said the NDA candidate from alliance partner AINRC won by 8,482 votes. He added that the Congress secured only 22% of the votes.

The remarks came amid the opposition’s criticism of the SIR exercise and its allegations concerning electoral processes. Shah argued that the BJP’s electoral performance should not be dismissed by attributing its popularity to the revision of electoral rolls.
