Congress Party’s 2028 Election Manifesto To Lay Stress On Socio-economic Measures: Karnataka CM

BENGALURU: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday exuded confidence in Congress party retaining power in Karnataka in 2028 Assembly elections and hinted the election manifesto of 2028 would include promises to strengthen the hands of people financially by focusing more on socio-economic development measures.

Siddaramaiah, addressing the gathering on completion of his 3-year rule as Chief Minister at a convention held in Tumakuru, said in the last 3-years, his government fulfilled more than 250 promises made to the voters of the State while before coming to power, the party assured as many as 592 promises.

In the remaining term of 2 years, Siddaramaiah assured to fulfill the rest of promises made to the voters. He pointed to the implementation of 5-guarantee programmes such as Rs 2,000 cash benefit scheme for a female head of a family, free travel for women across the State in State owned buses, up to 200 units of free power to a household among two others and “the guarantees were implemented within a year after the Congress party came to power in May, 2023.”

Despite criticism of 5–guarantee schemes, Siddaramaiah said, the State stands in a better position in the country financially and Karnataka GST collection is maximum to the nation’s development.

Prior to coming to power in Karnataka, Siddaramaiah said, 5-guarantee schemes were launched and it drew criticism from opposition parties-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal Secular (JDS). Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined the State leaders in criticizing the guarantee schemes and stated “It would be impossible to implement the guarantee schemes announced by the Congress party.” Besides, Modi said, “If implemented, the State would go bankrupt.”

But, Chief Minister said, Karnataka implemented guarantee schemes it announced prior to elections and also initiated development works.

The Chief Minister said during his first term as Chief Minister from 2013-18, as many as 158 promises made to the voters were fulfilled out of 165 poll promises made. “Not only now, Congress party has always strived to keep its poll promises whenever it was in power,” Siddaramaiah said.

Siddaramaiah said BJP creates rift in the society for power and also indulges in “false” propaganda which are “politically motivated.” Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar spoke.
