WARANGAL: The South Indian Consumer Coordination Committee will set up consumer help desks across southern states to provide free legal advice and guidance on product and service-related grievances, its president Pallepadu Damodar said on Sunday.
Speaking at a consumer awareness seminar organised by the District Consumer Advisory Association in Hanamkonda, Damodar said the initiative aims to assist consumers in addressing disputes without financial burden.
He said consumer grievances have risen with the expansion of multinational companies and the service sector. He added that the shift towards digital commerce, with online transactions estimated at around Rs.20,000 crore annually, has led to an increase in cybercrimes and disputes over product quality, pricing, warranties and service deficiencies.
Damodar said the project will be implemented in coordination with the Competition Commission of India and the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission. In the first phase, help desks will be established at five locations in Telangana Warangal, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Khammam and Hyderabad.
He said detailed guidelines and operational procedures for the centres will be issued shortly. Members of the District Consumer Advisory Association, including Indira, Jyothsna, Kaviraj and Ramesh Paul, attended the seminar and stressed the need for consumer awareness in a competitive market.
