Honey Chilli Potatoes Recipe
Honey Chilli Potatoes are a popular Indo-Chinese snack that combines crispy fried potatoes with a sweet and spicy sauce. Here’s a step-by-step guide to making this delicious dish.
Ingredients
For the Potatoes:
- 4-5 medium-sized potatoes, peeled and cut into finger shapes (about 1/3 inch thick)
- 2 tablespoons corn flour
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
- Salt to taste
- Oil for deep frying
For the Sauce:
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 2 teaspoons garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
- 2 green chillies, slit
- 1/4 cup capsicum, diced
- 1/4 cup onion, sliced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons chilli sauce
- 2 tablespoons tomato ketchup
- 1/4 cup honey
- Sesame seeds for garnish
- Spring onion greens for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare the Potatoes:
- Wash and peel the potatoes. Cut them into long, thin strips.
- Boil water in a pot, add salt, and drop in the potato strips. Boil until they are soft but not mushy (about 5 minutes). Drain and let them cool completely.
- Coat the Potatoes:
- Once cooled, dust the boiled potatoes with corn flour and all-purpose flour mixed with salt and red chilli powder.
- Fry the Potatoes:
- Heat oil in a deep frying pan. Once hot, carefully add the coated potato strips in batches.
- Fry until they turn golden brown and crispy (about 3-4 minutes). Remove and drain on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
- Prepare the Sauce:
- In a separate pan, heat oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and ginger; sauté for about 30 seconds.
- Add the slit green chillies, diced capsicum, and sliced onion. Sauté until the onions become translucent.
- Stir in soy sauce, chilli sauce, tomato ketchup, and honey. Mix well and let it simmer for a minute.
- Combine:
- Add the fried potato strips to the sauce mixture. Toss gently to coat all potatoes evenly with the sauce.
- Cook for an additional minute until everything is well combined.
- Garnish and Serve:
- Remove from heat and garnish with sesame seeds and chopped spring onion greens.
- Serve hot as an appetizer or snack.
