Chennai Super Kings IPL 2026 campaign has been heavily impacted by recurring injury setbacks, with several key players either being ruled out or facing fitness issues throughout the season. From overseas stars to domestic talents, CSK’s injury list keeps on growing, disrupting the team combinations and momentum at crucial stages of the tournament. What was expected to be another dominant and comeback season for CSK, has turned into a battle against injuries.

The list of players injured this season

– MS Dhoni, the veteran wicketkeeper-batter and former captain of men’s Indian Cricket Team & CSK, dealt with recurring calf and fitness issues early this season, limiting his availability and raising concerns over workload management among the viewers. MS Dhoni is yet to be seen in a match this season, making fans disappointed.

– Dewald Brewis, the explosive South African batter who is mostly known for adding runs aggressively in the middle order, faced fitness issues in the initial phases of the season. Currently he’s fit and playing with the team.

– Nathan Ellis, the Australian pace bowler expected to strengthen CSK’s death bowling attack, suffered a hamstring injury early this season, affecting the team’s fast-bowling balance.

– Spencer Johnson, the Aussie-left-arm fast bowler signed to add variety and pace to CSK’s bowling attack, also struggled with fitness concerns ahead of his involvement in the tournament.

– Ayush Mhatre, the India under-19 world cup winning captain and CSK’s key batter, suffered a left hamstring injury during the clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad and was ruled out of the tournament for the remaining season, weakening the batting lineup of the team.

– Mathew Short, the Aussie batting all-rounder who was supposed to provide stability in the middle order and contribute with the ball as a spinner, was ruled out after sustaining a fractured thumb.

– Khaleel Ahmed, the experienced Indian left-arm pacer brought in the team to strengthen the pace unit during the powerplay, also faced injury concerns that sidelined him from the games during a crucial phase of the tournament.

– Ramakrishna Ghosh, the young domestic player who added depth to CSK’s squad as a developing all-rounder option, suffered a fracture in right foot during a match against Mumbai Indians and has missed all the matches ever since.

– Jamie Overton, the English fast-bowling all-rounder who once provided the team with both ball and bat with his pace and lower-order hitting ability, also sustained a right thigh injury and later returned to the United Kingdom for further assessment.

Injuries have disrupted Chennai Super Kings campaign with nearly half of their team being injured or suffering fitness issues. CSK might now look out for a like-to-like replacement of Jamie Overton or may look out to bring MS Dhoni in the next game to get ahead in the tournament.

Despite the growing concerns, Ruturaj Gaikwad-led CSK can still recover from the setback depending on their experience and tactical flexibility. The franchise has historically been known for backing young players under extreme pressures, and the current situation may once again test the team’s bench strength, adaptability, management and leadership under difficult circumstances.
