Alex Bregman‘s 2026 is not necessarily over, even if his modeling career took a hit.
Despite being diagnosed with multiple facial fractures after he was hit by a foul ball standing near the on-deck circle Sunday, Sept. 20 — an injury captured for perpetuity in a gruesome selfie — Bregman is “hopeful to return in the postseason,” according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

Bregman was struck in the face by a foul ball while standing near the on-deck circle in the fourth inning of the Cubs‘ game against the Cincinnati Reds. The ball came off the bat of teammate Michael Busch, who checked his swing against Reds right-hander Luis Mey and shot a foul ball in Bregman’s direction.
The veteran third baseman immediately left the game with blood visible on his face. He later underwent hospital testing after the ball struck him near his cheekbone.

Bregman shared a selfie of the aftermath on his Instagram account, displaying significant swelling around his eye, along with facial cuts and a nosebleed.

Bregman went 1-for-1 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored before leaving the game.
The Cubs signed Bregman to a five-year, $175 million contract in January, and are counting on his postseason experience much as his bat or glove to be an asset as they seek to win their first World Series since 2016.
