Meghna Gulzar’s Daayra, starring Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead roles, witnessed a significant drop in its box office collections on Day 4. The investigative crime thriller, which arrived in theatres on September 18, faced its first Monday test and recorded a relatively decent collection than Sunday.
According to Sacnilk, Daayra collected a net of Rs 0.50 crore in India on Day 4, across 1,562 shows. With this, the film’s total India net collection stands at Rs 5 crore, while its India gross collection has reached Rs 6 crore so far.
The film also recorded Rs 0.25 crore from overseas markets on Day 4, taking its total overseas gross collection to Rs 1.75 crore. As a result, Daayra has earned a total worldwide gross of Rs 7.75 crore so far.
Daayra reportedly has a budget of around Rs 55 crore, although the makers have not officially confirmed the figure. The latest Monday numbers indicate that the film is on the way to cover the distance at the box office.
Directed and co-written by Meghna Gulzar, Daayra is a crime thriller inspired by a true event. The film features Kareena Kapoor Khan as DCP Ajooni Kohli, while Prithviraj Sukumaran plays DCP Raman Kumar. Daayra follows Ajooni, investigating a controversial police encounter involving several men accused of gang-raping and murdering a young woman.
As Ajooni delves deeper into the case, the film explores questions of institutional power, accountability and justice. Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran portray police officers who operate within the same system but approach the case from very different perspectives.
The film has a runtime of 2 hours and 23 minutes.
