The Vicar of Dibley star Dawn French has said she has made decisions about what she plans to do as she gets older and ages as she prepares for the release of her novel
Actress Dawn French has said she has made decisions about what she wants to do with her appearance as she gets older as she opened up on how she feels about people who criticise her image.
The Vicar of Dibley star, 68, said that she wouldn’t go down the surgery route as she approaches her 70s.
Speaking to the Times she said that it wouldn’t hurt her if someone decided to criticise her age. Furthermore, as well as discussing her appearance in the future, she also discussed how her appearance was talked about the past.
Focussing on what she intended to do with regards to her looks in the future, she said: “Let them see it. I’m f***ing grateful to be this age.
“I’ve made decisions about whether or not I’m going to take a machete to my face, and fine for anybody who wants to, but these are my decisions. People troll you and whatever, as if I would really care. Nothing will hurt me by criticising my age.”
Dawn, one half of the French & Saunders duo, also talked about how she felt about comments on her weight in the past. Dawn added that she had had so much of it that she felt “impervious” to the attacks now.
She explained: I feel a bit impervious to it now but you’re right, it’s shocking how much I’ve got used to reading this about myself. I just skim through and go, oh, there’s that s***.”
This isn’t the first time Dawn has talked about her weight and changing appearance in recent years after she lost seven stone. Following a cancer scare in 2014, Dawn was told her recovery would quicken if she lost weight.
This is what Dawn decided to do and ended up losing seven and a half stone as a result, dropping from 19 stone to 11.5 stone. Following her weight loss journey, she told The Times in 2023 that she didn’t want people to judge the person she used to be.
She said: “I have never rejected the bigger woman I have been. Lots of people do it and say, ‘Oh, you look so much better — now you look well.’ And I think, ‘F*** off! Don’t judge that other person who I loved.’
“Alison Moyet is a very good friend and so often she has been reduced to descriptions of her physicality. She’s this giant talent, why reduce her to that? I’m not taking any s*** from anyone about any of it.”
Dawn’s most recent interview comes ahead of the release of her Novel titled ‘Enough’ and follows a woman called Etta, 68, who is planning her own death.
She also recently starred in BBC sitcom Can You Keep a Secret?, which features a couple fraudulently claiming life insurance after the husband is mistakenly declared to have died.
