Hyderabad: A decoy operation carried out by the police helped in detecting an illegal gender determination test with the arrest of three persons including the director of a private hospital in Vanasthalipuram.
The arrested have been identified as K Raju, a private hospital director, receptionist Lokesh and a lab technician Vijay Kumar. Based on reliable information, the operation was conducted by deputing a woman officer as a decoy to the hospital where Raju and Lokesh promised to conduct gender determination tests.
They referred that a lab technician Vijay Kumar, who is known to them at Tukkuguda, would scan and tell whether the unborn child was a boy or a girl. With this, the police immediately raided the lab at Tukkuguda and detained Vijay Kumar, who was conducting the gender determination tests.
The police booked a case under provisions of Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act against the three people and arrested them. According to the PCPNDT Act, it is a crime to reveal the gender of the unborn child.
The police warned that strict action will be taken against those who violate this law. They appealed to the public to be vigilant against gender discrimination against girls and to immediately inform the police if they have any information about illegal gender determination tests.
