Rookie safety Dillon Thieneman played well in the two games for the Chicago Bears. He was their leading tackler and only allowed three completions for 46 yards. However, what he did against the Philadelphia Eagles was on a different level.
Thieneman has led Chicago in tackles in all three of their games this season. His interception came at a crucial point in the game for the Bears. With quarterback Jalen Hurts out of game as he was being evaluated for a concussion, Andy Dalton came into the game. On third and goal from Chicago’s two-yard line, Dalton was attempting to throw it to former Green Bay Packers receiver Dontayvion Wicks when Thieneman picked off the pass. It was his first interception of his NFL career.

Chicago drafted Thieneman in the first round of the draft. Given his production in college, Thieneman was not expected to reach the Bears at the No. 25 overall pick. However, the draft shook out just the way the Bears wanted it to and he fell right to them. His performance through the first three games also shows how strong this draft class is on both sides of the ball.

Fellow rookie Malik Muhammad II, who was drafted in the fourth round, got the start Monday night over veteran Tyrique Stevenson although Stevenson eventually came in the game when Cam Lewis was injured. Besides linebacker T.J. Edwards, Thieneman and Muhammad are the only players on Chicago’s roster with an interception in the first three games.
Offensively, the Bears are getting their rookies Sam Roush and Zavion Thomas more involved. Roush had a catch in the win against Philadelphia although he also made an unfortunate mistake on special teams. Thomas also had a catch and served as Chicago’s kick returner with a 32-yard return on his only kick return of the game.
