Karimnagar:A private bank has come under criticism following allegations that a physically challenged borrower and his family were forced out of their home over pending loan instalments in Indiranagar of Rajanna Sircilla district.

According to sources, the victim, identified as Bogam Gopal, lost one leg a year ago due to health complications. His family was allegedly evicted from their house by staff of a Karimnagar-based private bank over unpaid EMIs.

Gopal had taken a loan of Rs 8 lakh four years ago and had been paying interest regularly. However, after undergoing a leg amputation due to severe diabetes, the family reportedly defaulted on the last four EMIs. Despite requests for a temporary extension citing medical hardship, bank officials allegedly proceeded with recovery action.

Witnesses said bank staff asked the family to step outside for a video recording and inspection, following which the house was locked and a seizure notice was affixed.

Left without shelter, the family reportedly spent hours on the road before locals provided a temporary tent. Later, relatives shifted Gopal to Yellareddypet for accommodation.

Local residents have urged the District Collector to intervene on humanitarian grounds and expressed concern over the recovery process involving a disabled borrower.
