VISAKHAPATNAM:Ahead of Diwali, South Coast Railway (ScoR) has urged passengers not to carry inflammable items, explosives or firecrackers on trains, warning that violations pose a threat to public safety.

Under the Railways Act, 1989, carrying inflammable and explosive items such as firecrackers, gas cylinders, acid, petrol and kerosene on passenger trains is a punishable offence.

Those caught violating the regulations may face legal action, including imprisonment of up to three years and fines. They will also be liable for any loss, injury or damage caused to railway property or co-passengers.

South Coast Railway has launched special safety drives across its network to check the transport of inflammable items. Dedicated teams comprising Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel and civil defence volunteers have been formed to conduct surprise checks on trains.

Travelling Ticket Examiners (TTEs), coach attendants, train managers and station managers have also been instructed to keep a close watch for violations and help protect passengers from potential hazards.
