EastEnders stars Shona McGarty and Tony Discipline have hinted at marriage plans, with Tony declaring she is his soulmate as he cheered her on at her West End debut.

Tony Discipline has said marriage is on the card with his girlfriend Shona McGarty after declaring she is his soulmate. When asked if they could wed soon, former EastEnders actor Tony replied: “Absolutely that’s the love of my life. I’ve known her a long time.”

He made the comments, shared by The Sun, as he turned up to support Shona, who played Whitney Dean in the soap, at the opening night of her new West End production, From The Heart.

The actress, 34, has found love with the man who once played her on-screen boyfriend Tyler Moon, years after they first met on the BBC soap.

Tony, 37, certainly made an impression on the red carpet, arriving with a red rose and a card bearing the words “Mi Amor xxx” on the front for his girlfriend.

Former EastEnders star Shona also revealed last week she always believed her former co-star Tony Discipline was ‘”The One’. She shared pictures of him at the launch calling him “my gorgeous man”.

The couple, who confirmed their romance earlier this year, have known each other for around 15 years, having first met when Tony joined the BBC soap as Tyler Moon. His character went on to have a relationship with Shona’s character, Whitney Dean, before he left the show in 2013.

Despite their long history, the pair only recently took their friendship to the next level. Tony explained that they had both been in relationships over the years, meaning they had never acted on their connection.

“We’ve always had partners, so we never stepped over the line. But in the last year or so our chemistry has really come to light,” he said. And it seems Tony is already convinced he has also found the one.

“She’s just the best woman in the world,” he told The Sun. “Her energy, she’s so funny, she makes me laugh every day. I’m a very lucky man, I’m a very lucky man to have her and she’s got a beautiful voice hasn’t she?”

He added: “I don’t want anyone else in my life. That’s my woman, that’s my soulmate.”

Tony also suggested the pair could soon take another step in their relationship. Although they are not currently living together, he indicated that this could change in the near future.

He was keen to show his support for Shona ahead of her latest career move, saying he was excited to see her perform after witnessing the hard work she had put into preparing for the production.

Speculation about their romance began in March when the pair shared a cosy selfie on St Patrick’s Day. When they later confirmed they were together, Shona admitted she had “always had a soft spot” for Tony.

Tony, 37, left EastEnders in 2013 after two years in the role, while Shona bowed out as Whitney Dean in 2024 following a hugely successful 16-year stint. The pair recently confirmed their relationship after sharing snaps from a romantic holiday together, with eagle-eyed fans also spotting their matching tattoos.

The romance comes less than a year after Shona split from fiancé David Bracken. The actress and the Irish guitarist got engaged after he proposed in London’s Holland Park, but they mutually called time on their relationship before Shona headed into the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! jungle last November.

The former couple first met in 2023 after David contacted Shona on TikTok and asked if she would duet with him after watching one of her videos.
