Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels was off to a good start in the 2026 season before dislocating his left elbow on the final play before halftime against the Dallas Cowboys. This is the same left elbow he dislocated last season, and he missed significant time as a result.
On the Pat McAfee Show, ESPN’s Adam Schefter broke down Daniels’ options: put a brace on it or have surgery. The surgery would end his season.

“Jayden Daniels, they’re still going over the medical opinions on this matter,” Schefter said. “They’re going to be a lot of different schools of thought. It is a dislocated left elbow. It sounds like a similar timeline to last year. But, again, they’re going through this right now with all the medical professionals and still gathering together opinions. I don’t think he wants to do any surgery on the elbow that would stabilize it. But I’m not telling you that that’s off the table either, because who knows what a doctor is going to say, or who knows what someone around him is going to say. They’re still in the gathering stages right now. It certainly sounds like it’s going to be a few weeks. But, again, still gathering information.”
One thing Schefter emphasized was that Daniels does not want to have the surgery at this time. This matches his approach last season when he dislocated his elbow and did not have surgery. If Daniels didn’t have surgery, he would spend the rest of the season in a brace. But that shouldn’t directly affect his ability to throw the ball, though he could be limited in the run game.
