HYDERABAD: Excise STF B team on Thursday seized alprazolam and other substances allegedly used for preparing adulterated toddy during a raid in Shadnagar and apprehended a man accused of supplying the material locally.
According to officials, the raid was conducted at Nandigama in Shadnagar following information that a man identified as Aggi Ashok Goud procured alprazolam and raw materials in bulk from Raichur for illegal sale.
Acting on the tip-off, the excise team leader Pradeep Rao, along with CI Biksha Reddy, SI Balaraju and staff, conducted a search at Goud’s residence. During the inspection, officials seized five packets containing 18.37 grams of alprazolam and 37.32 grams of white powder. Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused was supplying the substances to local persons involved in the preparation and sale of toddy. Officials said alprazolam is often misused in toddy adulteration to induce intoxication.
The accused, along with the seized contraband, was handed over to the Shadnagar excise police station for further investigation and legal action.
