The new series, Akka, is soon to release on OTT. Featuring a star-studded female-oriented cast including Radhika Apte and Keerthy Suresh, the movie is sure to turn hears given the interesting premise it is set in. During an exclusive with Filmfare, Radhika Apte shared a few thoughtful words with respect to her character in Akka and her perspective on a particular saying.
Radhika Apte, when asked about her character in Akka, gave her honest say. She said, “She is a very delusional character. I find that very interesting in a sad way. To play it convincingly, I had to look at it very emphatically. She is a bit lost.”
She further added to her statement, speaking in depth about her strengths and weaknesses. “On one face, she looks very confident and ambitious, with strength and power. On the other side, she is a lost and broken little girl who wants a family. It’s a contrast… If there is a bit of nuance in the character, I find it interesting. If there are different shades to play with and it digs deeper into something.”
She was also asked what her opinion was on women being women’s own enemy. To this, she replied, “Aurten aurton ki dushman nahi hoti, aadmi aadmi ka dushman hota hai (Women are women’s biggest enemy and men are men’s biggest enemy). It’s about a human being.”
Diving deeper, she dissected the issue at the core and continued, “It’s about the quality of that particular human being, not about the gender. It’s been used against gender. It’s been used against aurat (women) to undermine them. There is no truth in that. The truth is, people are the same everywhere, whatever the nationality or religion.”
Akka is set in the fictional city of Pernuru under the rulership of female gangsters. The powerful sisterhood, however, comes face to face with an unprecedented terror, abruptly disrupting the tides of their reign and giving rise to an incredible tale of a claim to power. Akka will release on October 30, 2026.
