LOGAN – The Fairfield Union girls’ soccer team jumped out to a quick lead in the first five minutes against Tri-Valley and held on for the rest of the game.
The Falcons dominated the pace of play, added a second goal in the second half, and that was enough to secure a 2-0 Division III regional semifinal win over the Scotties on Tuesday, Nov. 3 at Logan High School.

For the second time in school history, Fairfield Union (15-4-1) will play in an Elite Eight game with a trip to the state tournament on the line when it faces Bexley (16-2-2) in a regional championship game on Saturday at a time and site to be determined. The Lions defeated Bloom-Carroll, 3-1, on Tuesday to advance to play the Falcons.
Fairfield Union senior Kyla Gasser controls the ball against a Tri-Valley defender during the Falcons’ 2-0 Division III regional semifinal win on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026. Gasser tied a school record with 78th career goal.
Scoring so early in the game seemed to put the Scotties on their heels the rest of the way, and the Falcons were in attack mode throughout.
“It helps to get on top early and to be able to put them on their heels and continue to push them, but it just means that we have to battle and play with even more intensity the rest of the way.,” Senior Maddi Mitchell said. “We did a good job of possessing the ball throughout the game. I just know that we want to continue our season and we don’t want this to be over. We all love this feeling, and we want to keep playing.”

Fairfield Union were able to get on the scoreboard when Kyla Gasser made a perfect pass to Ruby Warthman, who knocked it in with 35:03 left in the first half.
“That is huge to come out and get that goal in the first five minutes,” Fairfield Union coach Casey Bischof said. “We had some games where we’ve had chances to do that, and didn’t, and it was a totally different game, so for us to get that goal, it just changes everything. We have been so good, defensively, lately, that we feel comfortable once we get that one-goal lead.”
The Falcons had several chances to increase their lead but couldn’t find the back of the net until Gasser scored on an assist from Mitchell. It was Gasser’s 78th career goal, which ties a school record.
Senior Kaeda Miller earned the shutout and finished with five saves in goal.

“I felt like we were the stronger team; we controlled the entire game, and at this point in the season to be able to do that is huge,” Bischof said. “We have locked in as a team, and our energy is so high that we are going to fight for every single ball. Just being able to win that first ball and being the more energized team has really helped us in this tournament run.”
