St. Andrew’s volleyball season has drawn to a close one step shy of a Class 2A championship appearance.

The Scots fell to two-time state champ Trinity Catholic (12-25, 17-25, 25-22, 13-25) in the 2A semifinals at Polk State College in Winter Haven, Florida on Tuesday night, ending a historic season.

It was the first-ever state semifinal appearance for St. Andrew’s despite a season highlighted by the performances of underclassmen across the roster.

“What makes this team so special is not just what they accomplished on the volleyball court, but the character, resilience, and determination they showed throughout the season,” St. Andrew’s head coach Jorge Rivera said. “These young ladies faced challenges, overcame adversity, and continued to believe in each other when things weren’t easy.”

The Scots (19-8) did not go down without a fight against Trinity Catholic (25-5) on Tuesday, battling back after going down 0-2 to take the third set with a 25-22 victory.

Ultimately, Trinity Catholic’s Emily Reed proved difficult to manage, and the Scots often found themselves on the backfoot against the No. 9 ranked team in the state.

St. Andrew’s has had a season worthy of recognition after making the deepest postseason run in program history. The team will graduate five seniors, but just two ― Kiersten Rodholm and Madelynn Ortlieb ― were in the regular rotation, meaning this is a program that is set up to return the majority of its key playmakers.

With three eighth graders, led by star hitter Luiza Queiroz with over 300 kills on the year, the Scots are poised for a future of success. Between district and regional playoff matches, St. Andrew’s lost just a single set and that’s a trend that Palm Beach County volleyball fans might see more of moving forward.

“Winning both the district and regional championship is an incredible accomplishment and a testament to their hard work, dedication, and commitment to one another,” Rivera said.

“Our goal is to establish a tradition of excellence where success is not measured by one season, but by the standards we set, the relationships we build, and the legacy we leave for future generations of players,” River continued. “These championships are an important step in that journey, but they are not the finish line. I couldn’t be prouder of these young ladies.”
