Kamal Haasan’s birthday announcement has landed his upcoming film Sandiyar in controversy even before it goes on floors. The first-look poster of the film has generated considerable buzz, but it is the makers’ promotional messaging around revenge and bloodshed that has triggered criticism from filmmaker Lenin Bharathi.

The film, earlier referred to as KH237, is directed by SU Arun Kumar, who is known for films such as Sethupathi, Chithha and Veera Dheera Sooran. The makers have now officially unveiled its title as Sandiyar.

The first-look poster presents Kamal Haasan in an intense and rugged avatar, standing beside a car with blood stains on his body. The dark visual tone hints at a violent action drama revolving around revenge.

However, the promotional campaign has not gone down well with everyone. Ahead of the title announcement, the production house shared a message suggesting that revenge could only be settled through blood. This has drawn criticism from filmmaker Lenin Bharathi, who questioned the need to repeatedly glorify violence through cinema.

Lenin Bharathi expressed concern over films projecting bloodshed and revenge as answers to conflicts, particularly at a time when violent incidents in society are a growing concern. His remarks have added another dimension to the discussion surrounding the film’s promotional strategy.

On the technical front, Sandiyar has an impressive team. Anirudh Ravichander is associated with the music, while popular action choreographers Anbariv are handling the stunts. The film is being produced under Kamal Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films International banner.

With Kamal Haasan’s intense first look generating curiosity and Lenin Bharathi’s criticism sparking debate, Sandiyar has managed to grab attention even before its shooting begins.
