The rebranded Coachella Valley Lakers opened up the 2026-27 G League season and tip-off tournament at Acrisure Arena in the Inland Empire on Friday. They faced the Salt Lake City Stars in this game, and they gave fans in attendance the opportunity to watch Bronny James and rookie Cameron Carr in action for an extended stint.
They fell behind by six points in the early minutes, but they caught up and were able to hold off Salt Lake City to claim a 104-98 victory. They held Salt Lake City to just 37.4% field-goal shooting, which helped make up for the fact that they shot 43.4% overall and 19.2% from 3-point range.

James scored 22 points on 8-of-18 from the field while dishing off seven assists and grabbing five rebounds. Carr, the No. 24 pick in June’s NBA draft, hit five of his 11 shots to post 13 points, but he missed all four of his 3-point tries.
Guard Chris Mañon, a second-year undrafted player, had 17 points plus five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Guard Trey Alexander led the Stars with 20 points.
