Florida football is set to make a change at starting quarterback.

The Florida Gators (5-3, 3-3 SEC) will go with Tramell Jones Jr. over Aaron Philo to start on Saturday, November 7 against Oklahoma, according to a report from Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports.

The 6-foot-0, 196-pound Jones came in relief of Philo during UF’s 27-8 loss to Georgia on October 31 and led the Gators on their lone TD drive, scoring on a two-yard TD run.

Jones also led Florida to an upset win over Texas on October 17, passing for 155 yards and 2 TD while Philo sat out the game with an injured shoulder.

A Jacksonville native and former Mandarin High standout, Jones has completed 63 of 89 passes for 579 yards with 4 TDs to 3 interceptions. He’s also rushed for 83 yards and a 1 TD.

Florida coach Jon Sumrall said the Gators have to play better around the quarterback in order to get is struggling offense back on track. Florida has scored less than 20 points in three of its last four games, averaging 17.8 ppg during that span.

“It would be really nice if we make the quarterback’s job easier,” Sumrall said. “And if we’ll protect for them, we’re gonna hit some more explosive plays in the passing game. The problem is, in protection, we haven’t been consistent, and that’s been frustrating for me.”
