Tirupati: Food safety officials conducted surprise inspections at several ice cream manufacturing units and retail outlets in Tirupati
During the inspections, officials seized spoiled and expired ice creams and sealed the Balaji Ice Cream manufacturing unit for serious violations. Cases have been registered against the management, and all expired ice creams were discarded. The inspection drive also covered Dairy Smooths, an ice cream godown near Annapurnamma Temple, and several other ice cream shops in the city.
In a separate inspection, officials found severe hygiene lapses at ‘Star Foods’ in Bairagipatteda, Tirupati. The premises were reportedly infested with rodents, with rats spotted in the kitchen and storage areas. Officials described the kitchen as being in a highly insanitary and unhygienic conditions, resembling a dumping yard. Following the inspections, the Municipal Corporation issued notices to the establishments, and they were temporarily closed.
