Former Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Chris Oladokun is taking the next step in his football career north of the border.
The CFL’s B.C. Lions announced Monday that they have signed Oladokun to their practice roster, giving the former Patrick Mahomes backup another opportunity to continue his professional career.

Oladokun spent four seasons behind Mahomes

Oladokun spent the 2022 through 2025 seasons with the Chiefs after originally being selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He remained behind Mahomes for most of his time in Kansas City, eventually getting his opportunity when the Chiefs needed another quarterback.

That opportunity came last season after Mahomes suffered a season-ending ACL injury. Oladokun appeared in three games and made two starts, completing 35 of 55 passes for 235 yards, one touchdown, and no interceptions. He also rushed for 23 yards.
Oladokun was part of two Super Bowl-winning Chiefs teams during his time in Kansas City, collecting championship rings in the 2023 and 2024 seasons. He was waived by the Chiefs during their final roster cuts in August and subsequently reached an injury settlement with the organization.

The 29-year-old now joins a B.C. Lions team that already has Canadian quarterback Nathan Rourke as its starter. The Lions released quarterback Chase Brice as part of Monday’s corresponding moves, opening a spot for Oladokun.
This gives Oladokun a chance to get back on the field after spending the beginning of the 2026 season recovering from his injury. His experience in Kansas City should also make him an intriguing addition to the Lions’ quarterback room.
Oladokun’s NFL career did not unfold the way he may have hoped after being drafted, but he did get the opportunity to start NFL games and win two Super Bowls while learning behind one of the greatest quarterbacks in the league.
Now, he will attempt to extend his professional career with the B.C. Lions.
