Former UConn men’s basketball player Youssouf Singarè will return to Storrs this season, hoping to finally carve out a rotation role on the third stop of his journeyman college career.
Singarè, who played at High Point last season, appeared on the Wagner roster this week as a previously unannounced addition. The Seahawks will travel to Gampel Pavilion on Nov. 9, serving as a rare buy game on UConn’s ultra-competitive nonconference schedule.

Born in Mali, Singarè sprouted into a 6-foot-10 center and a top-150 prospect, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, after a successful prep season at Our Saviour Lutheran in the Bronx, choosing UConn over offers from BYU and several Big East rivals to round out Dan Hurley’s loaded “Fab Five” 2023 class, which included Stephon Castle, Solo Ball, Jaylin Stewart and Jayden Ross.
Singarè failed to achieve the same success as his peers in Storrs, logging just 87 total minutes across two seasons before entering the transfer portal in March 2025. His most impactful performance for UConn likely came in the 2024-25 Big East opener against Xavier, which starting center Samson Johnson missed due to concussion protocol, allowing Singarè to log four points and a pair of rebounds in eight minutes of action as the Huskies staved off the Musketeers in overtime.

A drop down to the mid-major ranks only yielded a small bump in playing time, as Singarè averaged 7.8 minutes per game for High Point last season. Singarè appeared in both of High Point’s 2026 NCAA Tournament games, including a Round of 64 upset over No. 5 seed Wisconsin, grabbing a rebound and a steal in 12 minutes.

The West African native has scored 12 of his 22 attempted field goals across his college years, but he’s struggled to curb his high turnover percentage and foul rate during his limited cameos.
Hurley began his head coaching career at Wagner, earning a step up to Rhode Island after posting a 25-6 (13-3) record during his second year at the Staten Island college. Singarè isn’t the only Connecticut connection on Wagner’s roster, with Waterbury native Tajae Jones and former Fairfield player Cam Estevez also making the early-November trip to Storrs.
