In one of her videos, she shares seven ways to give leftover Diwali flowers a second life, using things you may already have at home.

Give your festive flowers a second life

1. Make fragrant potpourri

Collect the leftover flowers and place them in a small breathable bag. Add a few drops of essential oil and some camphor. Hang the bag in a room to release a pleasant fragrance and keep the space smelling fresh.

2. Prepare bio-enzymes

Use the leftover flowers to make bio-enzymes through fermentation. This gives discarded floral waste another purpose instead of sending it to the bin.

3. Make incense sticks

Dried flowers can be repurposed to make homemade incense sticks, allowing you to put the petals to use even after the celebrations.

4. Dye fabrics naturally

Flower petals can also be used to extract natural colours and experiment with dyeing clothes and other fabrics.

5. Make homemade shampoo

Certain flowers can be used to prepare homemade shampoo, offering another way to make use of what would otherwise be discarded.

6. Turn them into compost

Add leftover flowers to your compost pile. As they break down, they contribute organic matter that can help nourish the soil in your garden.

7. Use them as mulch

Dried flowers can be spread around the base of plants as mulch. This helps cover the soil and retain moisture while making use of festive leftovers.

Instead of treating flowers as waste once Diwali is over, these ideas provide easy ways to extend their usefulness. Whether you turn them into something fragrant for your home or use them to nourish your garden, a little effort can keep festive flowers from going to waste.
