Gold Silver Rate Today: Gold and silver prices declined on Thursday, weighed down by weak demand and unfavourable global cues, as rising crude oil prices and geopolitical tensions kept investors cautious.
On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), gold futures for June delivery fell Rs 707, or 0.46 per cent, to Rs 1,51,950 per 10 grams, with a turnover of 564 lots. The drop came amid subdued spot demand and weakness in international markets.
Globally, gold futures were trading 0.83 per cent lower at $4,700.79 per ounce in New York, reflecting a broader softening trend in bullion.
Silver prices also remained under pressure, tracking gold and reacting to macroeconomic concerns.
Firm crude oil prices added to inflation concerns, raising the likelihood of interest rates staying elevated for longer. Higher oil costs typically increase production and transportation expenses, fuelling inflationary pressures.
While gold is often seen as a hedge against inflation, a high interest rate environment tends to reduce its appeal, as investors shift towards yield-bearing assets.
Market sentiment also remained cautious amid uncertainty surrounding stalled US-Iran negotiations. Tensions escalated after Iran seized two vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, a key global trade route, tightening its grip on regional shipping lanes.
The US has continued its naval blockade of Iranian maritime trade, while Iran signalled that any meaningful ceasefire would depend on lifting these restrictions.
With global risks and policy uncertainties in play, bullion markets are likely to remain volatile in the near term.
