In a unique and emotional farewell, a family in Gujarat held a grand burial ceremony for their beloved car, a 12-year-old Wagon R, which they considered “lucky.” The event, attended by approximately 1,500 people, took place in the Amreli district and cost the family around ₹4 lakh (about $4,800).
The car owner, Sanjay Polara, stated that the vehicle had brought prosperity and respect to his family since its purchase in 2006. To commemorate its significance, the family organized a ceremonial burial on their agricultural land, complete with religious rituals and floral decorations. The car was lowered into a 15-foot-deep pit, where it was draped in green fabric and adorned with marigold garlands and rose petals.
Invitations for the event were sent out to around 2,000 villagers, emphasizing the car’s role as a family member that contributed to their good fortune. The ceremony included prayers led by local spiritual leaders and concluded with a feast for attendees.
Polara expressed his desire to create a lasting memory of the car for future generations, planning to plant a tree at the burial site as a tribute. The event has sparked various reactions online, with many netizens finding humor in the unusual tribute.
