Anantapur: Gusty winds caused the fall of many trees in the region in the last two days, majorly disrupting traffic on several roads. Power disruptions were massive.
Many parked vehicles were damaged. A motorcyclist, whose vehicle got crushed under a tree that fell due to gusty winds has appealed to netizens on social media to donate a token Rs.10 each to enable him buy another vehicle, at the Vidyutnagar area here.
As per reports, more than a hundred trees were uprooted by the winds. With many fallen trees and their branches disrupting vehicular traffic on many city roads, the municipal corporation authorities remained passive. No action came from them even after 24 hours.
Even as the APSPDCL authorities led by superintendent engineer Sheshagiri tried to restore power since Sunday night. Many parts of Anantapur experienced supply interruption till Sunday evening.
The AP Housing Board colony, Aravind Nagar, Tapovanam and other parts faced major power disruptions. SE Sheshadri who was personally overseeing the restoration works at the housing board colony told DC that more than 115 power poles were uprooted on Saturday alone. Teams from Shirdiisai company etc were pressed into service to restore power supply.
Some big trees were uprooted on NH 44 near Tapovanam on Sunday evening but there was no significant damage. Power supply was hit at Tapovanam.
Temperatures were rising till 5pm in Anantapur. Some 4.5cm rainfall was recorded in Anantapur and the surrounding mandals on Saturday.
