Nizamabad: A hailstorm caused widespread damage in Nizamabad rural and Balkonda Assembly constituencies on Sunday, leaving farmers in distress.
The hailstorm lashed Dharpally, Indalwai, Sirikonda and nearby mandals for nearly an hour. Heavy rain was reported in Sirikonda, Konduru, Mailaram, Pedda Valgote, Chinna Valgote and Bheemgal.
Paddy spread out for drying on roads was washed away by rainwater, causing losses to farmers. Rainfall has been reported across several parts of the district over the past two days.
Farmers urged the agriculture department to conduct an assessment of crop losses and extend support. The sudden hailstorm during the peak summer season has adversely affected farmers in Nizamabad rural, Dichpally, Indalwai, Dharpally and Sirikonda mandals.
