Heavy rain lashed several parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh on Sunday under the influence of an upper-air cyclonic circulation over south coastal Andhra Pradesh, with Amalapuram recording the highest rainfall of 12.4 cm and Annavaram 8.9 cm.
Kadapa received 5.4 cm, Veeraghattam in Parvathipuram Manyam district 5 cm and Mopidevi in Krishna district 4.4 cm.
In Amalapuram and other parts of Dr B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district, continuous showers inundated roads and low-lying areas. Waterlogging at the Amalapuram bus complex disrupted traffic and inconvenienced commuters, while residents reported flooded streets.
The rain also disrupted darshan at the Sri Satyanarayana Swamy temple in Annavaram, where hundreds of devotees had gathered for Sunday puja. Approach roads were inundated and water flowed down the temple steps, resembling a waterfall.
Tirupati and Tirumala also received rain on Saturday night and in the early hours of Sunday. Several parts of Tirupati and the Tirumala hills received showers, leaving roads and open areas wet. Water flow increased at Malwada Gundam and Kapila Theertham waterfalls, while inflows into reservoirs supplying drinking water to Tirupati also increased. Several parts of the city witnessed waterlogging.
Nandyal town also received heavy rain for about two hours, inundating residential colonies.
The showers brought down temperatures and provided relief from the hot and humid conditions.
