Honved reached the final of the Hungarian League playoffs by defeating OSC twice, both times by a single goal.

The team, coached by Marton Szivos, advanced to the final with a total score of 9:3 in points. (each team carried three points from their encounters in the regular season).

Honved, the six-time national champion, will play in the final for the first time after almost 20 years. Its previous appearance in the final was in the season 2006/07, when it lost to Vasas. Before that loss, Honved won six consecutive titles between 2001 and 2006.

This pair started later than other semifinal duels because both teams had participated in the Conference Cup and the Euro Cup, respectively.

BVSC was the host in the first game. At halftime, Honved led 8:7. During the third period, the visitors increased the margin to two (11:9). Honved built a 3-goal lead in the final quarter (12:9 and 13:10), but BVSC managed to equalize at 14:14 with 51 seconds to go (it was the second equalizer in the game, after the one for 7:7 late into the second quarter). Henrik Simon gave Honved a 15:14 lead with 27 seconds remaining, scoring with an extra player. BVSC had a man-up in the final possession, but failed to convert it.

As usual, Nikola Moskov was Honved’s best scorer with five goals, and Viktor Vadovics added three. Zsombor Ekler scored four for OSC.

Honved opened the second match very well. The hosts led 4:1 after the first eight minutes, and had a 7:3 advantage in the second period. The visitors, coached by Daniel Varga, began to come back in the second half. Honved regained a 3-goal lead in the third period (8:5, 10:7, 11:8). Still, BVSC cut the deficit to one goal at 10:11 and 11:12. Three minutes from the end, Moskov made it 13:11. Erik Csacsovszky halved BVSC’s deficit with 78 seconds remaining.
