Horrifying video captured the sickening moment monks on a pilgrimage walk were mowed down Thursday by an 11-year-old driving his dad’s pickup truck, killing eight of them.
Security footage shows about 35 monks walking in a single file along a roadway in Mukdahan in Thailand, initially with just a lone motorcycle passing on the quiet road.
Suddenly, an out-of-control truck barreled through the procession, launching the Buddhist holy men onto the hood before catapulting them through the air.
Surviving monks rushed toward the crash site, where five were killed at the scene and another three died later at a local hospital, according to Mukdahan Governor Worrayan Boonnarat.
Other footage showed robed bodies scattered across the roadway and the wrecked pickup truck nearby, its front end smashed in, hood ripped back and crumpled, and windshield completely gone.
The deadly Thursday morning crash also left 14 hospitalized, including four in critical condition.
The religious group had just set off on the ill-fated 161-mile trek to Ubon Ratchathani about 30 minutes before they were violently mowed down.
Monks told police they saw the vehicle swerving before it veered off the road and slammed into them.
The boy has since been taken into custody, where he will be questioned by child protection officers.
The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
