BENGALURU: The High Court of Karnataka on Friday dismissed an appeal by actor Darshan and his wife Vijayalakshmi who challenged the vacation of an interim injunction order passed by a Bengaluru Court over the release of Darshan starrer Kannada movie “BOSS” and with the dismissal of actor’s plea, hurdles in the way for the release of the movie in theatres have been cleared.
The actor and his wife alleged the movie’s teaser depicted in such a manner that any normal viewer of the teaser would associate the teaser to the Darshan facing criminal case in the alleged murder of Renukaswamy.
The movie was slated for release in April and the movie “BOSS” release was halted in March after a Bengaluru Court passed an interim order against the movie release over the actor’s plea. Darshan made a plea to the Court alleging that the movie reportedly draws close relation to the ongoing Renukaswamy murder case in which he is an undertrial.
In May, a trial court dismissed the interim injunction before the actor appealed to the High Court of Karnataka. While dismissing the plea, the High Court on Friday observed “The very purpose of dismissing your application against the trial court vacating the interim order is to release the movie.”
The actor was arrested and lodged in Central Prison, Bengaluru on charge of murder of a Chitradurga resident Renukaswamy over his alleged lew messages to Pavithra Gowda, actor’s girlfriend. The actor was arrested in June, 2024.
It is alleged Renukaswamy was allegedly tortured and beaten-up by Darshan and his associates in a shed after ferrying the victim from his home town Chitradurga to Bengaluru. After an assault on him is alleged to have led to the death of Renukaswamy, the body of the victim was dumped on a roadside under Kamakshipalya police station of Bengaluru city.
