These lilies are known for their bright, cheerful blooms and are relatively easy to grow at home. According to Hyderabad-based gardening creator Shaily, the window from October to November is ideal for planting them. If the rains have stopped, you can begin planting and continue until December.

Start at the right time

“Actually, the best time for this is October-November,” says Shaily, who shares gardening and DIY tips on Instagram.

For gardeners in places where the monsoon has just ended, this can be a convenient time to get the bulbs into the soil. The weather is usually more suitable for the plant to establish itself before it begins putting out new growth.

Give it some sunlight

You do not need a huge garden or a spot that receives sunlight throughout the day.

The gardener says Asiatic lilies can grow with around three to four hours of sunlight. If your plant gets a little more sunlight, that is even better.

Look for a bright spot on your balcony, terrace, or garden where the plant can receive a few hours of direct sunlight.

Do not overwater it

One of the easiest ways to care for the lily is to keep an eye on the soil rather than following a fixed watering schedule.

“Just water it when the soil looks dry from the top,” Shaily explains.

Before reaching for the watering can, simply touch the top layer of soil. If it still feels moist, give it some more time. Once the top layer of soil feels dry to the touch, it is time to water the plant.

Keep the care simple

The best part for anyone new to gardening is that Asiatic lilies do not demand constant attention.

“It doesn’t need much care,” she says.

So, if you have been looking for a flowering plant to try this season, an Asiatic lily could be an easy place to begin. Give it a suitable planting window, enough sunlight, and water only when the soil dries out.
